This system tells the aircraft the presence of an obstacle or terrain on the ground ( eg mounting ) on the flight path . Preventive beep allows pilots to take the necessary measures to avoid the obstacle . Many experts agree that this system has saved many lives around the world.
TAWS system provides additional security over previous systems. The Organization of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO ) has published standards requiring the installation of TAWS on commercial aircraft, it is important to validate the presence of TAWS on aircraft you use. In Canada, several aircraft built before the 2000s , however, have not yet this type of equipment on board.
