Charter flight versus scheduled flight

We have decided to illustrate the difference between a charter flight and a scheduled flight with a true story.

Flight from hell to New York

On a beautiful Friday of the month of June, a loving couple was traveling in the direction of Pierre Elliot Trudeau terminal. The couple was celebrating twenty years of cohabitation (yes it still exists) and had decided to get away for a weekend to New York. Arriving at the airport, they turn round frantically looking for parking through the maze of the new airport development. After leaving their vehicles in a visibly dilapidated parking terminal, the couple was moving rapidly towards an electronic counter to get their boarding passes. They must ensure to arrive early (at least 1:30 before boarding). Then begins the round of repeated requests validation of boarding passes (6 times) and safety procedures circus. Removing their shoes, belts and unpack before the eyes of all and showing part of the contents of their luggage. The couple was traveling light to avoid the baggage carousels. But they are not out of the woods yet. The scheduled flight that was planned around 18:00 is delayed. They decided to eat at the airport instead of eating at the Italian restaurant in New York that was scheduled in the evening. While the dishes arrive, a voice announces that passengers must now return to the boarding gate. An attendant visibly tired announced that the flight was now canceled and that they will be on the 21:00 flight. The flight finally leave at 21:30, but a storm en route will require additional time in flight. Arrived in New York, they must wait another 45 minutes to get a taxi to the city center. Exhausted by this infernal carousel, the lovers fall fast asleep in their hotel room. Finally, the duration of the entire process for this regular flight Montreal – New York was 7 hours.

Dream trips to New York

Meanwhile, another couple (younger) opted for a very different experience. They came 15 minutes in advance at one of the many executive terminals at the Dorval Airport. Parking was free. A jet reserved by the Vinci agency was already in place for them. Boarding and validation of passports took only a few minutes. En route to New York, they enjoyed a bottle of champagne and that they were able to share in privacy during a flight of about 50 minutes. Being left on time, the business jet Learjet managed to avoid bad weather. Arrived at destination, customs were submitted directly to the aircraft. A few minutes later, they were free to leave and a taxi was already present at the FBO. Finally, the duration of the entire process for this charter flight Montreal – New York was an hour and 35 minutes only. Savings of more than 5 hours and much energy for the rest of the evening.
